Tannisha Avarrsekar
Her Company
Lokatantra is a youth-centric, digital news & media agency in the form of a website and mobile application that aims to educate the youth about politics and social causes. It aims to bridge the gap between voters and politicians by empowering voters with comprehensive information regarding the political process and ongoing issues. Further, the platform analyzes voter data through various polls and surveys to provide an overview of public sentiment. In this manner, the website acts as a resource for voters as well as politicians. Some of Loktantra’s flagship campaigns have been “The Loka Dictionary,” a glossary of political terminology, and “The Loka,” a collection of narratives of the heroes that drive Indian democracy. The platform is available to users as a website and an application, providing detailed information on every candidate in the Mumbai district.
Her Journey
Tannisha’s idea for the platform stemmed from the difficulties she faced as a first-time voter. After moving back to Mumbai from London, she worked with a few of her friends to launch Loktantra which transformed into a sizable organization with the generous backing of the Seva Ghar Foundation. Since the press launch of Loktantra, Tannisha was publicly offered office bearer positions in two opposing national parties but politely declined to maintain her neutrality stance on the platform. However, she later worked on the manifestos of both these parties for the same election. Tannisha also started her own consulting agency, Lokavyuha, which caters to several politicians from Zilla Parishad to Parliament, regional political parties as well as corporates and charities such as the Insaniyat Foundation and CFTI. Through Loktantra, Tannisha hopes to build an educated and well-informed voter base.
